A Winery to carry on tradition

The winery Schmid is located in a village called Gobelsburg in the wineregion Kampala in Lower Austria, and was founded by Anna and Josef Schmid in 1940.

Nowdays, the estate is runned in 3rd and 4th generation by Andreas, Alexandra and Verena Schmid. Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, the most significant varieties in the wineregion Kamptal, are growing on 18 hectares of vineyards around the village. Furthermore varieties such as Gelber Muskateller, Pinot Blanc, Zweigelt, Pinot Noir and Carbernet Sauvignon are cultivated, which all are playing a significant role at the wine estate.

Sustainability is the key point in the cultivation of vines: no herbicides, insecticides are used, green cover in all vineyards brings the soil the nutrition it needs in a natural way, all in all it is also used as a food source for insects. The winery is producing his own electricity due to photovoltaic, also in-house compost is used to avoid synthetic fertilizers.

Also in the cellar sustainable working is very important for the quality of the wines: grapes are harvested in small boxes and undergo a gently pressing, later the must is fermenting by selected yeast to guarantee a controlled biochemical mechanism.

Maturation in stainless steel tanks and/or big oak barrels, gives every wine his own significant touch.
